Burgas Region
Burgas region is situated in the South-East part of Bulgaria, at the Black Sea. The territory of the region is 7 753 sq km and it is the second largest region. There are the mountains Strandja, Dervenski Hills and Sakar and the river of Ropotamo. There are many protected areas with great number of birds and a lot of archeological places from Thracian, Roman and Byzantine times. Also the region is famous for its mineral waters and curative mud, important for the development of the SPA tourism.
The major city is Bourgas with population 168 600 (the half of the population in the region). There are many well known resorts and holiday villages, to name a few: Sozopol, Sunny Beach, Nessebar, Pomorie, Elenite, Ravda and Duni.
